What we offer

Pre-operative assessment

A consultation to examine your pet from nose to tail and check they're in good general health for neutering. We'll talk through the best timing and approach for your pet specifically, taking into account their age, breed and lifestyle, and give you a full written estimate based on your vet's advice.

Neutering procedure

Under a careful general anaesthetic, the neutering procedure - a spay for females, castration for males - is carried out in our dedicated surgical theatre. We can run pre-operative blood tests in our in-house laboratory to help us build a bespoke anaesthetic plan and minimise risk for every patient.

Post-operative care

Our registered veterinary nurse will send your pet home with a tailored post-op care plan. We'll also book follow-up appointments to keep a close eye on their recovery - for peace of mind every step of the way.

When it comes to neutering - particularly in dogs - there's no longer one universally right answer. The best timing depends on breed, size, health, behaviour and lifestyle. Our vets use evidence-based medicine to guide you through the decision.

We offer a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) spay option for female dogs at our St. John's Wood and Putney clinics. If we think your pet could benefit from this, we'll discuss it at your pre-operative appointment.

We know the idea of anaesthesia can feel daunting. Every patient gets a bespoke anaesthetic plan, and rest assured we have excellent outcomes.

FAQs

It won’t usually change their overall personality, but it can be effective in reducing certain behaviours, like roaming and marking. If you have specific concerns, our vets are always happy to talk through whether neutering is likely to help.

It's common for appetite to increase after neutering, which can lead to weight gain. Our Registered Veterinary Nurses are on hand to offer tailored diet and exercise advice to keep things on track.

Neutering is a routine elective procedure, so most insurance policies won't cover it. It's always worth checking with your provider to be sure.

For cats, neutering is generally recommended from 4 months. For dogs, the picture is more individual - breed, size, health, behaviour and, for females, timing since their last season all play a part. We'll talk through everything with you and make a recommendation based on what's right for your pet.
