During a cat spay the ovaries and the womb are removed through a tiny incision. To do this safely, the blood vessels are clamped and tied very securely to stop any bleeding. If your cat is pregnant, the womb is much larger and the blood supply is greatly increased making it a lengthier and more complicated operation.

During a conventional spay, an incision is made that is approximately 4-5cm in length. This allows the surgeon to get access to the ovaries and the womb in order to safely remove them. This requires quite a lot of manipulation. Dogs receive 2 different types of painkillers, but it can still be quite an uncomfortable recovery for them. In keyhole surgery, whilst there are 3 incisions made, they are tiny and the camera inside the abdomen means that a lot less manipulation is needed. It also gives great visualisation, meaning that some of the risks such as bleeding are lower.
