Microchipping

Quick, painless and legally required - the small step that could reunite you with your pet if they ever went missing.

(2,500+ Reviews)

What we offer

Microchip implantation

Getting microchipped is no more uncomfortable than a standard injection - no anaesthetic or sedation needed. A chip roughly the size of a grain of rice is gently placed under the skin between the shoulder blades, and the whole thing is over in seconds.

Microchip rechecks

We check your pet's microchip at every visit. Chips can occasionally shift a little under the skin over time, so a quick scan at routine appointments keeps everything in order.

Microchip scanning

If you ever find a lost pet, bring them in and we'll scan them straight away to help reunite them with their owner.

Once the chip is implanted, our team will check your details and register them on the national database immediately. No paperwork, no chasing - it's done before you leave.

What pet parents are saying

The most positive vet experience our nervous Sprocker has ever had. Every single member of staff was kind, calm and engaged.

April,

Jack's human

Absolutely thrilled with the service, friendliness and professionalism. We are so relieved to have found a vet who is so readily available to help and speak to us at any time and the ability to make appointments and chat to vets on the app is really useful.

Gerry,

Rudy's human

Arriving with my two kittens I was really nervous. The staff were so friendly and welcoming - this truly is a wonderful clinic. From the start everything has been super efficient and personalised.

Hannah,

Murphy's human

Good to know

Microchipping is now a legal requirement for all dogs and cats in the UK, and so is having owner details registered to the chip. Dogs and puppies must be chipped by 8 weeks; cats and kittens by 20 weeks.

Microchips aren't just for dogs and cats - we can chip most small animals too, including rabbits and, yes, tortoises.

If you move house or change your phone number, update your details with the database provider straight away to make sure that you’re reunited if your pet ever goes missing.

FAQs

A microchip is a tiny device placed just under the skin. It contains a unique ID number that can be read by a handheld scanner. That number links to your contact details on a secure national database, so if your pet is ever found, they can be traced back to you.

No. The chip only holds a unique ID number; no personal information is stored on it. Your contact details live securely on the database, which is why it's so important to keep them up to date if anything changes.

Unfortunately not. Microchips aren't GPS trackers: they can only be read by a scanner when your pet is physically present. For location tracking, a separate GPS collar device would be needed.

When a lost pet is found, they'll typically be taken to a vet, rescue centre or police station and get scanned. The unique ID number links to your details on the database, and you'll be contacted so you can be reunited - another reason to keep those details current.
